For Commercial Managers

Know where the job will finish — and be able to explain why it moved.

Foras connects what is happening on site with project cost, Finance and the forecast, so you can see the true position now, defend it in front of the business and intervene early enough to protect margin.

The job to be done

What you are accountable for, every week

The questions a Commercial Manager has to answer do not change. The problem is that the answers usually live in three places that do not agree.

01

Know the true cost position now

Not at month-end, and not after Finance closes. Captured site cost, Finance actuals and the recorded adjustments between them are visible as one position.

02

Predict where the project will finish

Forecast final cost is adjusted cost to date plus cost to complete, priced as quantity × rate × utilisation on each forecast line — not a trend line or a guess.

03

Explain the difference between Site and Finance

Every cumulative difference carries a recorded decision such as Timing or Match Finance, with the adjustment, the author and the reason kept in history.

04

Turn site activity into commercially useful information

Diary events become classified, dated cost against cost codes — and, where you use them, WBS elements and Work Items — without chasing spreadsheets.

The position

One cost position you can defend

Captured cost, Finance actuals and the recorded adjustments between them — per cost code, with the difference made explicit instead of averaged away.

How it fits your week

A rhythm, not a month-end scramble

  1. 01

    During the week

Site records labour, plant, materials and subcontract activity in the diary. Cost is captured and classified as it happens, dated to the day it occurred.

  2. 02

    When Finance posts

Finance actuals are imported from COINS and shown beside captured cost. Differences surface per cost code instead of hiding in a month-end total.

  3. 03

    Before you report

You record a decision on each difference, such as Timing or Match Finance, and post the adjustment where Finance is authoritative. Adjusted CTD is the position you stand behind.

  4. 04

    When the forecast moves

Adjusted CTD flows into the forecast. Forecast variance against Approved Budget tells you early whether margin is holding or where to intervene.

The last step feeds the first: this week’s decisions become next week’s starting position, so the explanation of why the number moved is never reconstructed from memory.

What Foras is — and is not

Straight answers before you book a demo

Finance stays authoritative

Foras does not replace your ERP or post to it. COINS remains the system of record for posted actuals; Foras reconciles the project position against it and records the decision.

No automated promises

Forecasting is explicit arithmetic on your quantities, rates and utilisation. Foras does not claim to predict the future — it makes your commercial assumptions visible and checkable.

Your structure, your choice

WBS elements and Work Items are optional and configured per project. Foras works with the breakdown structure you actually run.

Bring the questions your board asks. We’ll show you the position that answers them.

Use your own cost codes and your current month-end pack. We’ll map them into Foras and show how the position, the forecast and the Site-vs-Finance explanation connect.
